SBTi companies: who has targets in the UK, by status and sector

SBTi companies are the organisations on the SBTi Target Dashboard: on 11 October 2026, 12,121 worldwide had validated near-term targets, 1,564 of them in the UK.

This page counts Science Based Targets initiative companies from the SBTi’s own download, dates every number, and shows how to find and read a company yourself.

How to

How to find SBTi companies

The dashboard is the list. The downloads are the list in a form you can count.
  1. 1

    Search the dashboard

Filter the Target Dashboard by location, sector, organisation type and status; the UK is listed as “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.

  2. 2

    Or download it

One row per company (companies-excel.xlsx, 15,770 rows) or one per commitment or target (targets-excel.xlsx, 41,001 rows).

  3. 3

    Read the status

Near-term and net-zero status are separate columns: Validated Targets, Commitment to Set Targets or Commitment Removed.

  4. 4

    Read the target

In the by-target file each target has its scope, percentage, base year, target year and publication date; the SBTi target examples page reads two.

Statuses

What the SBTi company statuses mean

The SBTi revised its statuses on 24 September 2026, when its Commitment and Target Status document replaced the Commitment Compliance Policy; version 2.1 followed on 7 October 2026.

A company shows one of three labels, in this order of precedence: Validated Targets, then Commitment to Set Targets, then Commitment Removed.

A commitment is removed when targets are not submitted within 24 months, are not validated, or are not published in time, and a removed company cannot publish a new commitment.

A target can also be marked Expired, for example a year after its target year with no new targets submitted; no row carried that status in the 8 October data.

Financial institutions’ statuses will show whether targets are under the near-term criteria or FINZ “by the second quarter of 2027”.

Becoming one of the SBTi companies

A company joins the list when SBTi Services approves its targets and it publishes them, which it must do within six months (C28); the steps are on the SBTi validation guide.

Frequently asked

SBTi companies, answered

How many companies have SBTi targets?

12,121 organisations had validated near-term targets in the SBTi’s dashboard download retrieved on 11 October 2026 (data of 8 October 2026), and 14,278 had validated targets or a commitment to set them.

1,964 UK organisations were listed in all.

Is there a list of SBTi companies?

Yes: the SBTi Target Dashboard, which you can search and filter, and two downloads, one row per company and one row per target.

The old “Companies Taking Action” page now redirects to the dashboard.

What does “Commitment Removed” mean on the SBTi dashboard?

The organisation committed to set targets but did not submit them within 24 months, or did not reach validation or publish in time.

It is not eligible to publish a new commitment, but can still submit targets.

Which construction companies have SBTi targets?

In the download retrieved on 11 October 2026, 212 UK organisations were in the Construction and Engineering sector and 160 of them had validated near-term targets.

Filter the dashboard by location and sector to see the names.

How often is the SBTi company list updated?

Every Thursday, with commitment removals ordinarily on the first Thursday of the month.

Counts change weekly, so always quote one with its retrieval date.

Does being on the SBTi list mean a company is cutting emissions?

No. “Validated Targets” means the targets passed validation; progress needs the company’s reported emissions over time.
