TNFD software: buying for a voluntary framework that is still moving

TNFD software is any tool that helps a company map where it operates and sources from, work through the TNFD’s LEAP assessment, and draft nature-related disclosures.

This page is the buyer’s guide for a framework that is voluntary and still changing: what kinds of product are sold, which platforms say so in their own words, and what to buy now. What a TNFD tool must hold is on TNFD reporting software.

What you are buying

What is TNFD software, and what is free?

The TNFD’s Recommendations and its LEAP guidance are free to download, and both were updated in October 2026; LEAP is now version 2.0.

What a tool adds is location: LEAP starts by locating a company’s interface with nature, which means mapping sites and sourcing areas against nature data.

So TNFD software is usually one of three things: a nature-data and mapping tool, an ESG platform with a nature module, or a disclosure tool that holds the narrative.

The platforms, in their own words

Which platforms say they support TNFD?

1 of the 73 vendors in this site’s registry use these words about themselves on the pages read 11 October 2026 and 30 September–1 October 2026, listed alphabetically, which ranks nothing.

Few vendors in this site’s registry name TNFD on the pages read, which says more about the registry’s scope than about the market; specialist nature-data providers sit largely outside it.

Each cell is the vendor’s own description of itself, linked to the page it is on. Alphabetical order ranks nothing.

A vendor not listed may still do the job: put the question to it in writing.

Where a platform does name TNFD, its quote shows exactly what it offers, and the TNFD does not publish a list of approved software.

Ask any vendor to run the Locate phase on two of your own sites, because that is where nature tools differ most.

Order of work

How do you build a TNFD software shortlist?

Scope before you shop: LEAP lets a company start with its most material locations, so a first assessment need not cover everything.

Price

What does TNFD software cost?

The TNFD’s Recommendations and LEAP guidance are free; tools and the nature datasets behind them usually are not.

Most platforms that mention nature publish no price, and the vendor table shows a price only where the vendor publishes one.

Ask whether third-party data licences are inside the quote, because nature datasets are often licensed separately.

The calculator beside this sets a three-year quote against the staff time a first assessment takes.

What is moving

When is TNFD software worth buying?

No UK rule requires TNFD reporting, so the trigger is a stakeholder asking, or a decision to get ahead of the ISSB’s work.

The ISSB has decided to propose nature-related requirements as an IFRS Practice Statement, which it describes as non-mandatory, and the IFRS Foundation announced on 6 October 2026 a consultation closing on 19 February 2027.

A sensible buyer pilots now on a few locations and commits to a platform once the Practice Statement’s final form is known.

Read the detail and references

The ISSB’s work plan records its April 2026 decision to propose requirements in the form of a Practice Statement, and its July 2026 permission to ballot an exposure draft with a 120-day comment period.

The IFRS Foundation’s 6 October 2026 announcement scheduled a launch webinar for 22 October 2026 and gave 19 February 2027 as the close of the consultation.

New or amended ISSB material does not apply in the UK unless it is endorsed for UK use.

The TNFD’s own 2026 status report describes adoption so far.

Spreadsheet or software

Is a spreadsheet enough for TNFD?

For a first LEAP run on a handful of sites, a spreadsheet and the TNFD’s free guidance can do the job.

It struggles at the Locate phase, which needs spatial data, and when many sites or sourcing regions are in scope.

The worksheet beside this compares a quote with the hours the manual route takes.

After signature

How does a TNFD software roll-out run?

Follow LEAP’s own order: a tool earns its keep in Locate and Evaluate, where data matters most.

Neither the TNFD nor the ISSB sets an implementation time; agree a dated pilot on named sites with the vendor.

Keep the site list and evidence outside the tool, so the assessment survives a change of vendor or of standard.
