EcoVadis software: separate the rating platform from preparation tools
EcoVadis describes its own platform as supporting sustainability assessments, ratings and supply-chain information.
Separate that service from external software a company may use to organise documents and prepare evidence.
This is a software-use guide, not a claim that EcoVadis approves third-party tools or that an external platform can secure a rating.
Two different jobs
What does the platform do, and what might another tool add?
EcoVadis publishes its own rating methodology, assessment terms, pricing information and help materials.
Those owner documents describe EcoVadis’s assessment service and govern its rating outputs.
An external preparation tool may help a supplier assign owners, collect policy evidence, map records to a questionnaire and preserve revisions.
The vendor must demonstrate each capability from its own product page and in the buyer’s own environment.

Approval boundary
Does EcoVadis approve other software?
Do not infer software approval from a company’s EcoVadis rating, medal or badge.
The rating methodology applies to the assessed company and describes the rating process.
If a tool claims EcoVadis approval or a formal integration, ask for the exact entry on an EcoVadis owner-published directory or an official integration listing.
A vendor statement alone is not independent approval.
Vendor-owned claims
What does EcoVadis say its own platform supports?
EcoVadis’s own platform and ESG reporting pages describe sustainability intelligence, assessment workflows, ratings and supplier-related information.
Its methodology documents set out how its rating is produced.
Those are EcoVadis’s descriptions of its own service.
They do not establish a ranking of external preparation products.

Supplier-assessment demo coverage
Tick a test only when the vendor has demonstrated it with a representative record and shown the evidence or export.
0 of 4 tests demonstrated (0%). This is a checklist result, not a score for the vendor.
Still to test: Assign an evidence owner and source document; Map a record to the current assessment question; Show expiry, review, permissions and revisions; Export the evidence and access history.
Illustrative buyer case
How might a UK supplier preparing an assessment test a software claim?
Illustrative only: a UK supplier receives a customer request for an EcoVadis assessment and wants to organise evidence without assuming that a third-party preparation tool can produce a rating or medal.

Decision points
What should the buyer carry into the decision?
- EcoVadis rates assessed companies: do not infer approval of preparation tools.
- The methodology belongs to EcoVadis: check the current owner material.
- Evidence-preparation claims are vendor claims: test them directly.
Ask the vendor to map one current assessment question to a source document and export its history.
Use software to make assessment evidence traceable, and treat the EcoVadis rating as the outcome of EcoVadis’s own company-assessment process.
Frequently asked
EcoVadis software questions, answered
Is EcoVadis software?
EcoVadis describes its service as a sustainability intelligence platform that includes company assessments and ratings.
The vendor’s methodology documents describe the rating process; buyers should distinguish that service from third-party tools used to organise evidence before an assessment.
Does EcoVadis certify software?
No evidence in the official materials reviewed establishes an EcoVadis certification for third-party software.
A rating or medal applies to a rated company under EcoVadis’s methodology, not to the software used to prepare documents.
What can external EcoVadis preparation software do?
A separate system may help assign evidence owners, track documents, map policies and retain an audit trail.
Treat those capabilities as vendor claims and verify them with a live demonstration.
Is an EcoVadis rating required by UK law?
No UK law requires a company to obtain an EcoVadis rating.
A customer may request one contractually, but that is different from a statutory duty.
What should a buyer ask an EcoVadis software vendor?
Ask whether the tool uses the current EcoVadis questionnaire and methodology, how evidence is mapped and updated, whether document permissions are granular, and whether the company can export its records if it changes provider.
