ESG disclosure software: from requirement to published page

ESG disclosure software is the last mile of sustainability reporting: it turns data and judgements into the published disclosure.

Disclosure management tools map each paragraph to the rule behind it, track review and sign-off, and produce the final output.

For the data end, see sustainability data management software; for the whole stack, see ESG reporting software.

UK listed companies

What does ESG disclosure management software need to do for UK SRS?

Under FCA PS26/19, listed companies in UKLR 6, 14, 15, 16 and 22 report against UK SRS on a comply-or-explain basis for periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027 (FCA).

For each requirement the company either discloses or says what is missing, why, and what it is doing about it.

The listing rules also ask for statements on where the disclosures are, on assurance and, for some categories, on transition plans (PS26/19 Appendix 1).

So disclosure software needs a status for every requirement (disclosed, explained, relief) and a place for each statement, not only a document editor.

Companies Act

What about non-financial and climate disclosures in the strategic report?

Section 414CB requires the climate-related financial disclosures in the strategic report of in-scope companies (Companies Act s.414CB).

The five non-financial matters in section 414CB(1) reach only traded, banking and insurance companies, not AIM or high-turnover companies.

ESG management software for non-financial disclosures should know which list applies to which entity in a group; see climate disclosure software.

Assurance

Does ESG disclosure software need to support assurance?

The FRC issued ISSA (UK) 5000 for voluntary use; it takes effect on 15 December 2026 and is mandatory for no one (FRC).

Under PS26/19 a listed company states whether its disclosures were assured and, where they were, by whom and against which standard.

A limited assurance conclusion is never a positive statement that the information is correct, so the tool should not label assured figures as "verified".

Software that keeps an evidence trail per figure makes any assurance engagement cheaper; see sustainability assurance.

Digital output

Does ESG disclosure software need XBRL tagging?

The ISSB publishes the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Taxonomy and EFRAG publishes ESRS taxonomies, but neither creates a duty to tag on its own (IFRS Foundation; EFRAG).

For CSRD, the scope from financial year 2027 is undertakings above both 1,000 employees and €450m net turnover (Directive 2013/34/EU).

See XBRL tagging software and ESRS reporting software.

The demonstration

What should you test before buying?

Ask the vendor to take one UK SRS S2 requirement from data to published page.

Software demo · evidence check

ESG disclosure demo coverage

Tick a test only when the vendor has demonstrated it with a representative record and shown the evidence or export.

Which outputs did the demonstration prove?

0 of 5 tests demonstrated (0%). This is a checklist result, not a score for the vendor.

Still to test: Set a requirement’s status to disclosed, explained or relying on a relief; Draft the explanation for an omitted disclosure and route it for sign-off; Link a reported figure back to its source data and owner; Record whether assurance was obtained, by whom and against which standard; Export the final disclosure, and a tagged version if the company needs one.

Frequently asked

ESG disclosure software, answered

What is ESG disclosure software?

Software that assembles the narrative and numbers of a sustainability disclosure, maps them to the rule that requires them, tracks review and sign-off, and produces the published output.

What should ESG disclosure management software do for a UK listed company?

Track every UK SRS requirement as disclosed, explained or relying on a relief, carry the assurance and transition-plan statements the listing rules ask for, and keep the evidence behind each figure.

Is assurance of ESG disclosures mandatory in the UK?

No. ISSA (UK) 5000 was issued for voluntary use and is mandatory for no one.

Under PS26/19 a listed company says whether assurance was obtained and, if so, from whom and against which standard.

Does ESG disclosure software need to tag the report?

Only where a filing rule requires it.

The IFRS and EFRAG taxonomies exist, but neither creates a tagging duty on its own.
