Software · materiality, cited
Materiality assessment software runs and records how a company decides which sustainability matters belong in its report, under UK SRS’s investor test, the EU’s double materiality, or both.
Neither standard sets thresholds or a fixed process, so the tool’s job is to keep the judgement and its evidence; this page sets out what that means, then lists 51 reporting platforms in their own words.
What the software does
A materiality assessment decides what goes in a sustainability report, and a tool can organise it but not decide it.
Both main standards leave the judgement to the company: UK SRS S1 ¶B19 sets no thresholds, and EFRAG’s IG 1 says the ESRS do not mandate a specific process.
So the useful product is one that keeps the long list, the evidence, who decided and when, and the reason for every topic left out.
The concepts are explained on materiality and the EU process on double materiality assessment.
Topics from industry standards, the risk register, peers and stakeholders.
Data and documents attached to each topic, with sources.
A named owner decides, against the test the standard sets.
The list of material matters, with reasons for what was left out.
Next year’s assessment kept beside this year’s, not over it.
Which test
UK SRS S1 asks for information about risks and opportunities that could reasonably be expected to affect the entity’s cash flows, its access to finance or cost of capital.
The phrase “enterprise value” does not appear in UK SRS; the ISSB removed it from the final IFRS S1, as its Basis for Conclusions records at BC34(b) and BC39.
The ESRS add the impact perspective, the company’s effects on people and the environment, which makes the assessment double.
A tool used for both should name the test on every assessment, so that a topic material only for its impacts is not reported as an investor risk.
The ISSB’s educational material of 19 November 2024 on material information is explanatory only and sets no threshold.
IFRS S1 BC69 says sustainability materiality judgements will inevitably differ from those made for the financial statements, so a tool should not borrow the audit materiality figure by default.
The two tests side by side are on single vs double materiality.

Each reporting date¶B28Audit materiality
DifferentIFRS S1 BC69UK SRS S1 ¶B19 says the standard does not specify any thresholds for materiality or predetermine what would be material in a particular situation.
¶B25 says an entity need not disclose information otherwise required if it is not material, even where the standard lists it as a minimum requirement.
So a scoring scale or cut-off inside a tool is the company’s choice, and the tool should record it as a choice, with the date and the person who set it.
¶B28 asks for judgements to be reassessed at each reporting date, which means last year’s assessment must survive this year’s.
The EU process
The revised ESRS, published as Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/1563, set out the double materiality assessment in ESRS 1 Chapter 3.
The phrase “materiality matrix” does not occur anywhere in the regulation, and no separate stakeholder-engagement process is needed, so a matrix is a presentation choice.
Severity is assessed on three factors and likelihood separately, which is the scoring structure a tool should follow for impacts.
EFRAG’s IG 1 says a GRI impact assessment is a good basis for the impact side, and EFRAG had issued no guidance for the revised ESRS as at 11 October 2026.
